There are different kinds of workouts available to anyone who wants to take a step towards fitness. Pilates is one of the best forms of workouts one can opt for getting fitter and losing weight. In this blog, Rubina Ratnakar tells the readers all about Pilates for those who don’t know about it.
Pilates was developed by a person named Joseph Pilates who worked on forming this workout for a long time. His father was a gymnast and his mother was a naturopath. He developed many exercises before he could develop the system of Pilates. Today, this exercise is practiced in countries like the US and Australia and has spread to many other parts of the world as well.
When Pilates formed the workout he assigned six principles to it. The six major principles are concentration, control, flow, center, precision, and breathing. All these together constituted the full Pilates workout. Nowadays, three more of them have been added namely stamina, postural alignment, and relaxation. The nine of them together form a beneficial form of workout.
Taking all the principles into consideration, breathing is one of the important principles as it is incorporated to coordinate the body movements with the breathing rate.
Concentration and control signify that the movements and exercises need to be focused upon and done in a controlled way. Centering is one specific type of exercise and is one important principle. All the movements should be done in a proper manner and flow is signified by the word flow.
Postural alignment while doing the exercises, the precision of the moves, relaxation after exercises, and increased stamina are the other principles.
There are studios and classes where you can practice the Pilates workout. Do not forget to take all the equipment and proper clothes in your workout session. Since it is a high-intensity workout you cannot do it daily. Take a break after every session. Like all the other classes, there are many variations and will be planned according to the individual.
