Aromatherapy is a set of therapies used these days to improve physical and mental health. In this blog, Rubina Ratnakar talks all about aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy is also called essential oil therapy because various essential oils are used in therapies. Either essential oil is used for massage for smelling or just applying a layer. Essential Oils are oils extracted from specific parts like flowers, seeds or leaves of a plant. The essential oils have a number of benefits like antibacterial, antiviral and antioxidant properties. Check out some great essential oils to use for aromatherapy.

There are two kinds of therapies in aromatherapy they are inhalation therapies and application therapies. In application aromatherapy, the oils are either massaged all over the body or products containing those essential oils can be used. Just applying a layer on the skin is also a type of application therapy or the skill will absorb the oils. Whenever doing application techniques you should take care that essential oils can’t be applied directly to the skin. You have to dilute the essential oils and then use them.

Talking about the inhalation therapies, whenever we smell the essential oils, the particles of the oil enter our body through our nose and move on to the respiratory tract. The tract is connected to the brain so ultimate benefits are to the mental health of an individual. The molecules also pass to the mouth when inhaling and hence enter the digestive tract influencing all the organs of the body. Inhaling essential oils will improve the activities related to the brain and heart like blood pressure, breathing, heart rate, and a better hormonal balance in your body.

Another very important thing to be kept in mind is that we should never intake essential oils through our mouths. If essential oils are consumed they can damage your kidney and cause problems to the alimentary canal. Essential oils and aromatherapy can help you in releasing stress, body aches, fatigue, depression, release muscular pains, get rid of nausea, and even be applied to your hair too. It can prevent hair loss.
