Self-defense is an important skill all of us should learn in our lives. Even though you are a peaceful person or you think you may never need to use your physical strength to save yourself, you should learn to deal with every situation in life. No one knows what is coming their way. It is better to be ready to combat anything in your life. Some prevalent and popular forms of fighting and self-defense are martial arts. In this blog, Rubina Ratnakar tells you about the different types of martial arts you can learn.

Starting with one of the most famous forms, Karate is a form that covers a lot of styles. This style is famous for its open-handed chops and contains kicks and punches as well. One can start from the beginner’s level and reach high levels of expertise.

The next type of martial arts is Judo. It revolves around grappling with your opponent and ends with a pin-down.

Who doesn’t love Jackie Chan and the incredible Kung fu he does in his movies? Most of the people are so mesmerized by the movie, they start learning Kung fu themselves. Originated in China, this martial arts is a mixture of various forms of fighting. High kicks, jumps and range punching are the key features.

The next on our list is Taekwondo. This is one of the oldest forms of martial arts that originated in Korea. The main steps involved in it are joint locks, throws, punches, and strikes.

Hapkido is a type that involves using a number of weapons like belts and ropes. The weapons are then used for kicking and throwing.

One famous and unique form of martial arts is Aikido. In this form, we use momentum in order to defeat the opponent instead of using kicks and hand strikes. This form is mostly based on putting joint locks.

Some other famous forms are Jujitsu, Capoeira, Krav maga and Taichi.
